ALBANY, N.Y., April 4 /PRNewswire/ — TWEC.COM (http://www.twec.com), the
e-commerce site of leading entertainment products retailer Trans World
Entertainment Corporation (Nasdaq: TWMC), today announced that it will be the
exclusive music retail sponsor of the Online Hip-Hop Awards 2000
(http://www.onlinehiphopawards.com). TWEC.COM will stream a live webcast of
the April 12 event to its e-commerce site, as well as host live chats
backstage with celebrity guests. In addition, TWEC.COM will conduct exclusive
interviews backstage with Online Hip-Hop Award winners for broadcast on the
site at a later date.

The Online Hip-Hop Awards 2000 will honor the best of hip-hop music and
Web sites in 1999 in 15 categories and feature a star-studded line-up of
artists including Cypress Hill, Redman, Method Man, Goodie Mob and Outsidaz.
Established in 1997 by SOHH.com, the web’s umbrella community for hip-hop
culture and urban lifestyle, the Online Hip-Hop Awards is a “people’s choice”
awards ceremony, with fans choosing nominees (and ultimately winners) in each
category.

“Our sponsorship of the Online Hip-Hop Awards reinforces our commitment to
urban music fans,” said Michael Madden, President/COO of Trans World
Entertainment. “Not only will fans be able to watch the live event on our
site, but they will also be able to chat with winners minutes after they have
been honored.”

“By teaming up with TWEC.COM to host a live web cast of the Awards, we are
better able to provide hip-hop fans behind-the-scenes information about their
favorite stars,” said Felicia Palmer, SOHH.com founder and executive producer
of the Online Hip-Hop Awards 2000.

In addition to the vast coverage of the Online Hip-Hop Awards on TWEC.COM
(http://www.twec.com), SOHH.com (http://www.sohh.com) and the official Online
Hip-Hop Awards web site (http://www.onlinehiphopawards.com), the Awards have
also been publicized through extensive signage in Trans World Entertainment’s
retail stores across the country, as per the agreement. Proceeds raised from
the ticket sales of the Awards show will benefit M.O.U.S.E. (Making
Opportunities to Upgrade Schools and Education), a New York non-profit
organization that wires inner city schools to the Internet.

Every week, TWEC.COM and SOHH.com team-up to host live chats with
world-renowned hip-hop, R&B and rap artists such as Beanie Sigel, Ice-T,
Raekwon, Dr. Dre, Goodie Mob and Drag-On.

About OHHA

The OHHA started in 1997 as a grassroots effort by SOHH.com, the umbrella
community for online Hip-Hop culture, to recognize the efforts of Web masters
and Hip-Hop fans that were trailblazing Hip-Hop culture on the Internet. The
first Awards was a simple voting form on SOHH.com that listed Web site
nominees and later listed the winners. The second Awards, in 1998, was a
voting form as well, but culminated with a live announcement of the winners
over the Internet during a special show on 88HIPHOP.com. By 1999, the Awards
grew tremendously to consist of over 55 Web sites participating including
major sites such as TheSource.com, Blaze.com, Vibe.com and Loud.com, with over
500,000 votes cast. The six weeks of voting culminated with a live Web cast
from Tramps in NYC, featuring 20 acts including Naughty By Nature, Canibus,
Grandmaster Flash and more.
