TWEC.COM (www.twec.com), the e-commerce site of leading entertainment products retailer Trans World Entertainment Corporation (Nasdaq National Market: TWMC), announced today that the site will be offering free shipping from Thanksgiving through New Year’s Eve. In addition, TWEC.COM announced the launch of several site enhancements, including gift certificates, the TWEC-o-mender gift recommendation center, and online coupons. The site will also be making holiday shopping easier for everyone this year with its “Holiday Shoppe,” featuring holiday-theme items and sales on top selling merchandise in one section of the site.

Free shipping applies to the purchase of any one or more items purchased on TWEC.COM between November 25 and midnight on December 31, 1999. In addition, TWEC.COM now accepts online coupons offered through consumer mailings and through Trans World retail outlets via flyers and phone cards that entitle consumers to specific offers at TWEC.COM. TWEC.COM also announced the launch of TWEC.COM gift certificates. Visitors to the site can purchase gift certificates redeemable online at TWEC.COM in denominations from $5 to $500. The certificates, valid for one year from the date of purchase, can be sent via e-mail or printed to present in person. The gift certificates can be purchased with other items on the site, and go through the checkout process in the same shopping cart, making the purchase experience easier for the customer.

In the coming weeks, TWEC.COM will also introduce the TWEC-o-mender gift recommendation tool to make holiday shopping easier. The shopper may enter entertainment preferences and other demographic information about friends, co-workers and relatives into the TWEC-o-mender to get tailored gift ideas. Based on the information provided by the shopper, the TWEC-o-mender provides recommendations on music, movies and games that might appeal to the recipient. Through collaborative filtering technologies, TWEC.COM has expanded upon similar applications to include both demographic and geographic profiling.
