ALBANY, N.Y., Dec. 7 /PRNewswire/ — TWEC.COM (http://www.twec.com), the e-commerce site of leading entertainment products retailer Trans World Entertainment Corporation (Nasdaq: TWMC), announced today it is broadcasting chats live through Real Audio, in conjunction with SOHH.com (Support Online Hip-Hop).
During the chat, a link to the audio chat stream using Real Audio technology is posted that, for the first time, enables fans to hear the artist respond live to chat questions directly through their computers, providing first-hand contact with their favorite artists.
Upcoming artists who are scheduled to take part in these special audio broadcasts at http://www.twec.com include Children of the Ghetto on Thursday, December 9, 1999 at 10:00 p.m. EST and Goodie Mob on Thursday, December 16, 1999 at 10:00 p.m. EST. Artists who have already taken part include Dr. Dre, Nas, Raekwon, Gang Starr, Ice-T, Kurupt and Buckshot.
“Providing fans with direct access to an audio broadcast of the chat adds a unique interactive element to the chat, and personalizes the experience for the fans,” said Jim Litwak, Executive Vice President of Marketing and Merchandising, Trans World Entertainment.
“Audio chats go beyond the browser to provide a more intimate, interactive experience between the artist and his fans,” remarks Felicia Palmer, founder of SOHH.com and frequent interviewer for the weekly artist chats. “We’ve found that this one-to-one interaction evangelizes fans and increases album sales.”
Goodie Mob’s chat, which follows a web cast of the band at 9:00 p.m., will center around the group’s latest album, to be released on December 21. These events coincide with the grand opening of “ShopOnlineHip-Hop(TM)” the hip-hop boutique store, which will be accessible from the TWEC.COM web site. The co-branded store will offer hip- hop and rap music daily industry news, new music, video and game releases, as well as an extensive hip-hop library.
The SOHH.com Back to the Future live chat series occurs every Thursday night from now until New Year’s Eve at 10:00 p.m. EST.
